Say hello to Sam!
Sam is an outdoor enthusiast, and though now 28 years old, in this painting he is under the age of ten. The reference photo I used while painting Sam's portrait was taken just as night was about to fall and after a full day of water skiing, hence the rosy red cheeks. It is said Sam's playful spirit is legendary, particularly to his four nephews, all who "love Uncle Sam!" I grew quite fond of Sam too while painting his portrait, as his smile tells it all.
As the youngest of three children, Sam was the last to get his portrait painted. Sam's parents are delighted to finally have a painting of Sam they can place with his siblings on the stairway!

What an honor to see this lovely endorsement from Rufty Homes, who commissioned me to create the "Venice Memories" painting for their office.

Two more commissions are in the queue to be given as Christmas gifts and I am very excited to see what happens as they come to life on canvas! Oils are so much deeper and richer than a photo, and create such a cherished gift for the recipient.
Stay tuned!

When my art followers are ready to become collectors, they come to me with a vision of capturing special moments in their lives. In this case, it was a 10-year anniversary trip to Venice, Italy, and this was the view out the hotel window they woke to each day!
The colorful buildings, the people going about their day, the pristine blue sky, and the water reflecting light in various ways all make this scene worthy of the effort of capturing it on canvas.
And though the amount of detail was daunting (i.e., 100 windows for starters!), the challenge was both a privilege and an inspiration when I was asked to take on this work. Yes, I confess painting buildings that were leaning did make me twitch just a bit. But it served as a great reminder that, as an artist, I must paint what I actually see-rather than what my brain wants to see-to make a scene a masterpiece.

Meet Brinci Kitty!
Brinci Kitty was found in a parking lot when she was a tiny little thing, and in that moment her life changed for the better. From the sound of it, her new caregiver's life changed for the better in that moment too.
I was asked to paint Brinci as a birthday surprise for her beloved caregiver. Since the fleur-de-lis is also a favorite of this very special recipient, we decided to add the vase and peonies too. Finally, with the help of my framer, Judie Howard with The Nature of Art, we found the perfect framing materials to compliment the painting too. Voila!
What an honor it was to part of this very special creation!
