This painting was inspired by a cherished photo my neighbor took of her husband and daughter while strolling together in Charleston. My neighbor wanted to surprise her husband with a commissioned painting of this scene for Christmas. Of course I could not share it with my followers until AFTER Santa came, in order to keep her secret safe!

The best part for me, aside from the joy of painting this fabulous photo, was my neighbor's reaction when she got her first sneak peek as it emerged on canvas. It was also a very special moment when her husband called me after opening it on Christmas morning and shared his delight in receiving it.

I just love being a Santa's helper!!!

I have recently finished my last commissioned painting for 2022 and am eager to share. Since it's a Christmas gift for a collector to give to her loved ones, it must be kept TOP SECRET until Santa comes!

Instead, today I am sharing my other obsession of making trivets, potholders, and mug rugs. While I'm not exactly sure what brings me back to the table to weave, my best guess is it has something to do with the neat little rows and the sense of accomplishment in a mere hour or two... every.single.day. I will confess these trivets were woven over the weekend and took about an hour and a half each to complete. I'll let you do the math!

Weaving occupies my creative time when I'm not painting, and is a fun activity to do with my grandchildren too. Even four-year-old Savannah is a talented weaver and, just like her Bammy, will sit for HOURS so she can weave a pot holder for her favorite person of the day. Yes, the obsession runs in the family!

I wonder what each of you do to nurture your creative side? Please share with me those things that feed your soul and bring you joy!

Wishing you and yours a blessed holiday season and a joyful, soul-feeding 2023!

With love and appreciation for each of you,

Barbara

P.S. Stay tuned for the big reveal of a very special Christmas gift!
