I have been wanting to capture this special moment on canvas for quite some time. The stars finally aligned!
There were a few very interesting firsts in this painting: it was my first time painting a portrait of a human (I have previously only done animals!) and this was the first time dealing with reflections under water. I also wanted to try a "looser" brush stroke vs. blending so much.
Here you see the end result of all those firsts, featuring Miss Savannah, my four-year-old granddaughter.

“Willie!”
This is Willie, the best buddy of my daughter, Sherry, and granddaughter, Zoey. Willie lives at Saddletree Stables in Willow Springs, NC, and Sherry and Zoey ride at least twice a week. Willie has stolen everyone’s heart with his spunky personality and insistent nudges for treats.
This painting of Willie is a special gift for Sherry for her birthday. I hope it also gives her something to look forward to while she heals from a broken ankle and can’t ride for a while.
Though Sherry’s painting of Willie is not for sale, please know I love doing commissions of favorite pets, humans and places/scenes! Reach out if there’s a special painting in your future too!
